UnBeing: ceci n’est pas une fiction is an experimental short film that navigates the unstable space between reality and perception. The film follows fragmented presences rather than fixed characters, where moments repeat, distort, and dissolve. What appears as documentation slowly reveals itself as construction, and what feels real begins to slip. It challenges the idea of authenticity in image-making and asks a direct question: when everything is recorded, what still remains real? Developed as a graduation project at the Center of Excellence in Design and Applied Arts, Ibn Tofail University, the film was directed by Sami Nait Bachir in collaboration with Fatine Mazlati and Larbi Chatir under the supervision of Professor Mehdi Zhar. Written, edited, and assembled by Sami Nait Bachir, with cinematography by Imad Chatti and Salah Eddine Belboudali, the film features performances by Sami Nait Bachir, Asmae Adnani, Mohamed Oulhaj, and Imad Chatti, with Mohamed Oulhaj also serving as first assistant director and Fatima Essakh as executive producer. Makeup was handled by Fatine Mazlati, canvas artwork and infography by Larbi Chatir, and original outro music by Mehdi Zhar. This Moroccan experimental and psychological short film, produced in 2025, is in English and Moroccan Darija, with multilingual subtitles available.
