A Little Bit About The Artist

A Statement From The Artist

This story began forming when I was doing the washing up one evening and made awkward eye contact with my sad, overworked kitchen sponge. From there the film felt like it wrote itself, while drawing inspiration from the campiness of B-movie horrors, and the brilliant colours of the 70’s. ‘Scrub Me, Daddy’ was created for Straight 8. This means it followed a specific set of rules: it had to be shot on one cartridge of super 8 with no post production editing (shot chronologically, with every ‘edit’ made with the pull of the trigger), and the soundtrack had to be made blind without seeing the final film. It made Straight 8's top selection of films for 2024 and premiered at the BFI IMAX: this was the first time the smallest film format was shown on the UK’s largest screen.

Do you like scary movies? And if so which ones?

I adore 70s scary movies like Suspiria and Carrie, as well as Rosemary's baby. Nostalgia and Horror is a beautiful mix.

Who's your fave Final Girl and why?

Ellen Ripely - Cliché for a reason, an icon and a sexual awakening!

What is the biggest influence in your practice?

Derek Jarman - his experimentations with Super 8, his fight for LGBTQIA+ rights, and his amazing use of light continue to inspire me.
