The movie I've chosen for this month fave pic is Longlegs by Oz Perkins.
I was inspired by this months exhibition 'Spiralling' and it's aesthetics. The works I chose to display this month have an unsettling and absurd look to them, which reminded me of the makeup and effects used in this movie . The reason I chose "Spiralling' to be this months theme is that I wanted to see madness represented by various artists to see how it was perceived by others, like in this film, which gave me a very unique perspective on it as we see Nicolas Cages character who's face is as mad as his personality, 'Spiral' from start to end...
My favourite thing about this genre-bending movie was how it took me completely by surprise unlike others coming out at the time, I found that its trailer and ominous advertisements revealed almost nothing of the plot, which probably would've been okay considering the actual story is INSANE and unpredictable combining both supernatural and criminal elements, resulting in an entirely confusing but terrifying watch.
Also I found the overall aesthetics of Longlegs very refreshing compared to other films and TV set in the 70s that I have seen recently as there was not a disco ball in sight! So if you're getting tired of the saturated blockbusters of recent years, i'd give this a go for sure!

As an avid horror fan this movie definitely satisfied my need for gore and demons however if you enjoy thrillers and crime shows this could also be for you as this movie follows a detective investigating an elusive serial killer who leaves cryptic messages for her at each crime scene, reminding me very much of the 2007 movie 'Zodiac' without making me feel like I had wasted 3 hours of my life. The character 'Longlegs" played by Nicolas Cage captivated my attention throughout the movie with his haunting gaze and unexpected singing, yet again Nicolas Cage has brought another iconic villain to life making it easy to understand why this movie is already gained a cult following.
You can check this movie out in cinemas now or rent on Amazon from August 27th.
