A Little Bit About The Artist
A Statement From The Artist
My name is Karina Alejandra Garza and I am a Mexican American artist residing in South Texas. I work as a freelance photographer specializing in lighting design with an interest in cinematography.
Do you like scary movies? And if so which ones?

I’ve never loved watching scary movies, at all. I watched A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) when I was 10 and couldn’t sleep well for two weeks. But when I first moved to NYC at 19 and had no plans for halloween night, my friends and I dressed up and went to the midnight showing of Psycho by Hitchcock in the East Village. Aside from watching it every 31st of October since then, it played a huge role in my interest in filmmaking. Thrillers / Horrors have been my favorite genre to produce since I first started making films! Other favorites are Halloween (1978), Last Night in Soho (2021), Silence of the Lambs (1991), Cam (2018), and Blue Velvet (1986).

Who's your fave Final Girl and why?

I loved Eloise from Last Night in Soho, she was someone who leaned into her fears in order to know them better, she wanted to know more until it became too twisted which I found myself relating to!

What is the biggest influence in your practice?
Surprisingly, my biggest inspirations to my work come from the study of art history and color theory. My favorite artists who have influenced my work are Caravaggio, Vermeer, Hopper, Monet, Rothko, Jacques Louis David, and Gentileschi.
