A Little Bit About The Artist

A Statement From The Artist

WE ARE GASH THEATRE: A female-led, queer performance company all about fusing theatre and film into trashy, glittery, organized chaos. By deconstructing form and reconfiguring our own gender identities, we make work that is critically provocative, technically groundbreaking, yet still makes you want to boogie. https://gashtheatre.com/ Since our founding in 2020, we’ve created four original theatre and digital theatre productions that have run with The Tank, Camden People’s Theatre, Theatre Deli, and Assembly Festival (Edinburgh Fringe 2021 & 2022). Gash's work has been selected for BroadwayWorld UK's Best of 2021 list and as a finalist for the Offie Awards, reached 500+ digital households and sold-out in-person audiences, and received widespread critical acclaim (including ★★★★★ - BroadwayWorld, ★★★★★ - FringeBiscuit, ★★★★★ - Adventures in Theatreland, ★★★★ - The Scotsman).

Do you like scary movies? And if so which ones?

I love scary movies that indulge in the sensuality of gore and the mushy gushiness of blood and guts spilling out into space, Some favorites of mine are The Shining, Candyman, Evil Dead II, Suspiria, and The Blob.

Who's your fave Final Girl and why?

Helen Lyle from Candyman. A Final Girl in a sexually intense gothic romance with her monster. And of course her professor husband who's dating his female students is the true evil that must be haunted till the end of time. Many such cases!

What is the biggest influence in your practice?

Lypsinka; Yoko Ono; 70s pornography; Carol J. Clover's Men, Women, and Chainsaws; Clive Barker; Busby Berkeley; Valerie Solanas.
