Forgotten

2025

Oil paint in clock and on steel.

45 x 45 cm

Are you afraid of time? What will we be remembered as? If we are remembered at all, perhaps even for a short while. Time runs out for everyone. The clock face is missing eyes similarly to how identity is lost over time. The eyes are the windows to the soul, yet when our time runs out our souls move on. My intent was to expand upon what I originally perceived as painting in a sculptural form. The differently aged hands reaching out, like we cling to the past whilst heading toward the future. Fear has been and will always be a catalyst for change in my life. In the future I want to utilize fear in a way that’s positive.

A Little Bit About The Artist

A Statement From The Artist

Lee Oakley is a multi-media artist, mostly working between performance, photography, collage, installation and poetry. Oakley's work explores how the public gaze and societal scrutiny can force chronically ill and disabled bodies into a forced performativity. Through body art, Oakley's sentient work performs the oppression it is grounded by, speaking back to these performative dynamics by confronting the viewer with a role-reversal.
