A Little Bit About The Artist
Bethan Hamilton
I am a UK based Visual Artist who specialises in drawing, illustration and printmaking. Originally from Greater Manchester, I currently live and work in Sussex.
My portraits, self-portraits and still-life pencil, pen and charcoal drawings are inspired by many different themes. The recurring themes and interests within my practice span from; female identity and sexuality, transformation of self after childbirth, postpartum womanhood, motherhood, postpartum depression to climate anxiety, spirituality, divination, esotericism, horror and the occult.
My ongoing mini series of pencil portrait drawings, 'Scream Queens' which began in 2022, depicts iconic female protagonists and villains from 90's and 00's cult horror movie classics. Original images sourced from movie stills found online. I am very interested in exploring the female archetypes in cult horror. Such as the dangerous and predatory temptress, the unhinged or vengeful mother and the innocent virginal heroine.
Trick or treat?

Do you like scary movies? And if so which ones?
Love a demon/possession film so I would have to say The Omen and The Exorcist are two of my all time favourites. I'm also very into comedy horror like Cabin Fever, Cabin in the Woods, Tusk and Fresh.
Whats the biggest influence on your work?
The biggest influence on my practice would be the works of Jenny Saville, Nicola Hicks and Frank Auerbach (specifically their drawings on paper). Contextually, my work has been heavily influenced by horror, tarot/divination and esotericism since 2019.
