A Little Bit About The Artist
A Statement From The Artist
Mindang is a multimedia artist with a deep interest in the feminine, magic, horror, and the intersections between these themes. Horror is frequently used in both media and the art world as a means of exploring social taboos such as queerness, transformation, and mental health challenges. In this spirit, taking elements from myth and folklore, Mindang incorporates elements of horror into their work to express concerns about gender politics, the ongoing deterioration of the natural world around us, and anxieties surrounding identity and relationships - all examined through a lens that embraces the absurd. Using symbolism and intuitive mark-making techniques, Mindang processes these ideas by transforming unanswered questions and social commentary into whimsical yet morbid mythological scenes. Influenced by the surrealist movement, their work fuses explorations of dreams and the subconscious with clashing colours, patterns, and motifs drawn from alternative subcultures.
