Weeping Mary
Pen
2024
£8 for an A4 print
As someone who is obsessed with all things goth, macabre and the occult- Ensor finds Virgin Mary statues a common muse for some of her illustrations. This particular one was created using just biro pen, as an effort to explore how Ensor could magnify the fragile expression caught on the face.

Nosferatu The Vampyre
Pen
2024
£8 for A4 print, £2.50 for postcard size print
For ‘Nosferatu The Vampyre’, Ensor worked with biro pens; a classic medium from when she first started illustrating, in order to recreate this iconic film scene from Nosferatu The Vampyre, the classic 1979 horror film. As an avid horror, goth and occult lover, Ensor created this illustration after recently graduating, delving back into her love for all things creepy and dark. She hopes to expand her practice into creating more based on the occult, goth, folklore within the future.

A Little Bit About The Artist
A Statement From The Artist
Alexandra Ensor is a multidisciplinary illustrator, animator and visual artist based in Manchester and the North of England. Her artwork focuses on themes relating to the occult, macabre, folklore, history, feminism, neurodivergence, mental health and more. Predominantly working with ink, Ensor specialises in visceral image making and approaches, emphasising textures, mediums and other sensory qualities, which are ignited by her neurodivergence. These are an integral tool to her style, in order to accentuate strong characters and themes. Combining both traditional and digital methods, Ensor is fuelled by personal interpretations, automatic drawing and a general love for storytelling and narratives.
What's your fave Gothic movie?

Honestly it is such a hard decision, but I would have to say The Shining- its an all time classic for sure.

Who or what is the biggest influence in your practice?

I would say either Tim Burton as I've grown up falling in love with his style ever since watching The Nightmare Before Christmas at a young age, and myself. My art is always influenced directly from how I'm feeling or what I am going through, or my interests, and these all work together to help me grow as an artist and create more.
