A Little Bit About The Artist

What is your favourite style of painting and why?

When it comes to painting I do have a weakness for the renaissance era. Specifically in the North - Jan Van Eyck and Albrecht Durer are two of my favourite artists. When it comes to Van Eyck I find that his works intricacies, such as always embedding a tiny self portrait somewhere and his eye for perspective draws me in. His attention to detail is also very striking. When looking at specific objects within his pieces such as pieces of jewellery, gemstones can be graded from his paintings. Examples being the amber beads in the Arnolfini portrait and the choir in the Ghent Alterpiece. Albrecht Durer is also a huge inspiration to my own work. Although I am more interested in his prints his self portrait at the age of 30 (?) painting himself in the image of Christ has always been a favourite! Besides this I quite like El Greco. It’s hard to say a favourite style of painting as I like a lot of different styles of art but the art of the renaissance is one that I always come back to.

What’s your favourite Movie or Tv show?

My favourite movie has got to be Amadeus by Milos Foreman

What’s the biggest influence on your work?

My biggest influence for my practice has shifted since the piece/pieces I will attach. Now the way I approach my art is much more clear minded than I used to. I draw inspiration from nature and the subconscious. The pieces sent were based on my mindset of that time, which was slightly rough. My pieces focused on animal consciousness/ lower consciousness and feeling out of place as sorts. I still draw inspiration from the subconscious and I look to Carl Jung’s philosophy a lot, but I’d say now there has been a shift in influences.
