A Little Bit About The Artist

A Statement From The Artist

"The Vampire" came from my obsession with gothic art, creatures, and old horror films from the 50's-70's. It also came as a result of wanting to create what I call my "Man Eater" film series. The "Man Eater" series is a collection of shorts centered around mythical creatures who eat men who've harmed them. "The Vampire" is a follow-up to "The Siren", and next, I plan to make "The Witch" and "The Fairy" to complete the series. I wanted to create this series of films as a way to world build and create an audience for my upcoming feature film "Man Eater", which is currently in development. I also felt there was a huge need for feminine, female-forward creature films with a diverse cast and important underlying messages. "The Vampire" is a really important film to me and I think very necessary right now. The film speaks on themes like sexuality, sexual trauma, and immigration... but disguised through genre, blood, and vampire fangs.

Do you like scary movies? And if so which ones?

Of course! Many but my favorites are probably Rosemary's Baby, Suspiria, Carrie, The Shining, Alien/Aliens...

Who's your fave Final Girl and why?

Probably Ripley from the Alien franchise! She is THAT girl. She's smart, capable, nurturing, strong, empathetic, and SO brave... AND she has one of the most iconic lines in a movie ever: "Get away from her, you bitch!"

What is the biggest influence in your practice?

I think my experience as a [latina] woman is the thing that influences me and informs my art the most. The experiences I've dealt with, the female rage, my sexuality, the love of horror that many latinas have... it's all of that for sure.
